 NATIONAL BANK FOR AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (NABARD)

NABARD came into existence on 12 July 1982 by transferring the agricultural credit functions of RBI and refinance functions of the then Agricultural Refinance and Development Corporation (ARDC). It was dedicated to the service of the nation by the late Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi on 05 November 1982.

Set up with an initial capital of Rs.100 crore, its’ paid up capital stood at Rs. 5,000 crore as on 31 March 2016. Consequent to the revision in the composition of share capital between Government of India and RBI, the Government of India today holds Rs. 4,980 crore (99.60%) while Reserve Bank of India holds Rs. 20.00 crore (0.40%).

MISSION

"Promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural prosperity through effective credit support, related services, institution development and other innovative initiatives."

How it Supports;

NABARD initiatives are aimed at building an empowered and financially inclusive rural India through specific goal oriented departments which can be categorized broadly into three heads: Financial, Developmental and Supervision. Through these initiatives we touch almost every aspect of rural economy. From providing refinance support to building rural infrastructure; from preparing district level credit plans to guiding and motivating the banking industry in achieving these targets; from supervising Cooperative Banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to helping them develop sound banking practices and onboarding them to the CBS platform; from designing new development schemes to the implementation of GoI’s development schemes; from training handicraft artisans to providing them a marketing platform for selling these articles.

 Over the years our initiatives have touched millions of rural lives across the country. Our milestone achievements have been India’s achievements as well. The SHG Bank Linkage Project launched by NABARD in 1992 has blossomed into the world’s largest micro finance project. Kisan Credit Card, designed by us has become source of comfort for crores of farmers. We have financed one fifth of India’s total rural infrastructure. We were pioneers in the field of watershed development as a tool for sustainable climate proofing. It’s a long list indeed and we welcome you to understand us better.

Ways of Supporting;

  Apart form the above mentioned ways it supports other way also, like developmental activities,supervisory, Micro credit innovation, Financial inclusion and capacity building Etc..

NABARD Financial Services Limited (NABFINS)

NABFINS is an initiative of NABARD born out of serious concerns about the practices of NBFC MFIs in the mid-2000. Entrusted with the responsibility of promoting microfinance sector besides scaling up SHG-Bank Linkage NABARD thought it fit to form a Micro Finance institution on a pilot basis with the objective of developing it as a model NBFC in the country which will facilitate setting up of bench marks and standards for the MFI sector. In particular, NABFINS objective was to ensure that the various maladies found in the NBFC MFI sector such as lack of transparency in accounting and disclosure, high transaction cost, lack of diversification in products, increased rates of interest, coercive collection practices etc. are sought to be eliminated by establishing a fair and transparent Micro Finance Institution.

Mission

To be a trusted client centric financial institution advancing hassle free services to the low income household and the unorganised sector.

Way of Supporting;

Agri Receivable financing Model:

Mainstream financial institutions limit access or does not provide financing for post-harvest operations of farmers, especially small producers and small landholders. These small producers largely depend on intermediaries for enabling market access or have now begun the process of forming a Farmer Producer organization. Being in the first part of its institutional journey has limited scale and largely depend on market intermediaries to connect with bulk buyers. This product attempts to provide funding and liquidity support to enable smoother operations and market linkages.

Some Key features of the product are;

1. Facilitating post-harvest finance to small farmer through intermediaries like produce aggregators in the value chain.
2. These produce aggregators serve as market intermediaries for small producers , enabling their better access to market, supporting better prices and realisation, besides bringing transparency in value chain operations.
3. Provides loans to market intermediaries – by thecationhypo underlying receivables and thus enabling bridge finance to primary producers

Other ways of supporting;

  • Lending under SHG and JLG model
  • Second Level Institution Finance
  • Finance for solar purchase
  • SHPI Program

 it mainly focus on rural area, which caters the needs of rural people by lending with affordable interest rate.
